Vigneron Thoughts from Pierre Seillan
We are releasing the 2004 vintage of Lassègue and Chateau Vignot, while I am here at Chateau Lassègue finishing the fermentation of another great vintage. The 2004 Vintage was a classic year in Bordeaux, cooler than either 2003 or 2005, it presented the challenge of obtaining full ripeness and the opportunity of great structure in the wines produced. For Bordeaux vintages, first they are always compared to the vintage before (2003), then they are compared to the vintage after (2005), and if it is considered to be an exceptional vintage it is compared to the others in the decade or century. The challenge with the 2004 vintage is that it was better than 2003, but was then slightly ignored when the stellar 2005 was discovered to be better. The wines are opening beautifully right now; we recently had a dinner with the winery team, friends and local connoisseurs to celebrate the end of harvest. We enjoyed verticals of Lassègue and Chateau Vignot (2003-2006), and at the end of the dinner, the 2004 Lassègue was the favorite. The beautiful maturity of the Merlot, the finesse of the Cabernet Franc and the deep-rooted ripeness of the Cabernet Sauvignon combined create a great synergy in the glass. We used 9 micro crus to create Lassègue and 4 to create Château Vignot. The 2004 vintage is open and will continue to age well, while the 2005 is still closed and may take 8-10 years to fully open up.
Vinexpo 2007
June 18-20
Vinexpo was a great success this year. We hosted several journalists and customers for our afternoon tastings. We also hosted a dinner for our customers from South Korea, with 45 journalists, sommeliers, retailers and restaurateurs in attendance. The star of the week was our VIP evening, celebrating the Franco-American partnership between the Jackson and Seillan families. Two chefs (Laurent Manrique from Aqua in San Francisco and Philippe Gauffre from Les Roches Rouges in Corsica) prepared French and American cuisine, while our guests dined under a beautiful rainbow, a Saint Emilion sunset and fireworks.

Chateau Vignot 2004: 4 Stars, Exceptional!
Houston Chronicle
June 2008
"The 2004 vintages of his new Saint Emilion Grand Cru, Lassègue is in the Houston marketplace now, as is his 2003 Chateau Vignot... They are remarkably elegant and refined, if characteristically earthy and wonderfully inexpensive for a Saint Emilion appellation."
- Dale Robertson

Wine of the Week: Lassegue 2004
15/20 Points
"The result is a complex, layered, elegant wine that reveals its tannins in its finish, and will continue to improve with age. Serve it with beef, veal, or poultry."
- Alain Gayot
Robb Report

Lassegue 2004
"...a complex and unusually detailed wine in a vintage that challenged most producers. The nose is redolent of strong roasted coffee and spicy licorice, while the velvety and voluptuous palate reveals ripe black plum, wild berries and vanilla bean before the lengthy finish of orange zest and cardamom."

Wines of France 2012 Guide

"The wines: the 2010 shows promise, with very dense fruit and extensive tannic character. It will establish itself. Suave and modern, the 2009 is captivating but will also need time to mature. The more classic 2008 is also well-constructed, still in its seductive style."
Hachette 2012 Wine Guide
Jan 2012
"A superb domaine, where the twenty-hectare vineyard surrounds an authentic Carthusian monastery on a hillside, with a chapel and terrace, facing south above the Dordogne valley. There are two very good wines here. The Château Vignot is excellent, even though it’s grown at the foot of the slope. The highly aromatic nose evokes cherry, raspberry, liquorice and spices. With its strong, round palate and its fresh fruitiness and tannins, this is a good vin de garde (five years). The domaine’s cru principal is the Ch. Lassègue 2008. Its pretty nose of red and black fruit, cinnamon, spices and tobacco, allied to its fine flavour in the mouth, its freshness and its still somewhat austere but high-quality tannins"
Bettane & Desseauve 2012 Wine Guide

"Lassègue is an excellent, little-known estate located in Saint-Hippolyte in the heart of the Saint-Émilion winegrowing area. The vineyard, acquired by the Californian family group, Jackson Family Wines, in 2003 is managed by Pierre Seillan, the Gascon co-owner of the château. The wines are gradually discovering their style: they are consistent and powerful and progressively gaining in finesse, which is easily made possible by the terroir."

Struggle in Bordeaux
"The result is an estate grounded in the tradition of St. Emilion with new equipment and practices needed to bring the quality of the wine to the highest level."
